Israeli company Elbit Systems has announced a contract worth approximately US$350 million to modernize main battle tanks for an undisclosed international customer.

According to the company, the agreement will be carried out over four years and includes new electro-optical fire control systems with artificial intelligence capabilities, as well as electric gun and turret drives, communication systems and situational awareness equipment.

Elbit said the new AI-assisted sights will allow better detection, identification and tracking of targets during daytime and nighttime operations. The company also highlighted that the electric drives replace older hydraulic systems, offering greater precision and reducing the risk of fire inside the vehicle.

The contract also includes the supply of spare parts, technical support and long-term maintenance to ensure the operational availability of the modernized fleet.

Elbit Systems is one of Israel’s leading military technology manufacturers and supplies systems to armed forces in several countries, including solutions for armored vehicles, drones, electronic warfare and artillery.

Although the company has not disclosed which country will receive the upgrades or which tank models will be modernized, the contract reinforces the growing global demand for armored vehicle upgrades following lessons observed in recent conflicts, especially in Ukraine and the Middle East.
